It’s A Riot! Puppet Theatre started the fall of 2011 with a brainstorming session in colored markers on a huge sheet of paper in a cozy yellow living room on a rainy November evening. We visioned about the importance of shared public ritual in public spaces with strangers and friends a like. We whispered about the magic of using puppets to shift consciousness and to redefine what is real and what is imagined. We shared stories about rituals we were a part of, theatre that moved us and outdoor puppet shows that stopped
our hearts and filled our imaginations. We wanted to bring these parts of ourselves to the place where we live now and so…
Just a few weeks later we performed our first Winter Solstice Extravaganza on December 21 2011, as a small white mouse searched the long dark day in fear that the sun would never return. On her journey she met other animals and formed unusual friendships. Together they called back the sun from where it was trapped in wood. By making a bonfire the suns energy was released to heat and nourish our bodies and souls through the long dark winter.
Since that time we have created 4 public puppet rituals in the Ithaca, NY area. We now make spontaneous guest appearances and cause all kinds of nightly mischief to entertain and surprise the senses!
